Tired and Exhausted

I trained both sessions on Wednesday.  At the end of the afternoon session I noticed a harsh reality.  At 36 my body does not recover or perform like it used to.  I was able to finish my workouts for sure but my body was aching.

Later on I noticed another problem, the root of my issues are that I just do not eat enough.  It's no secret that I'm not a big fan of home cooked asian food.  I'll eat it for sure but I'm not big on eating a lot of it.  Well for dinner I decided to eat more than usual.  About almost immediately my body stopped aching and my headache stopped.

Training here at Kiatphontip is of a different variety.  It is traditional for sure just like Kaewsamrit and Fairtex but there's more variety per se.  Top Muay Thai camps typically have you do 4 x 5 minute rounds of pad work with a trainer, then 4 - 5 rounds on the bag, 20 minutes of clinching, and then finally some conditioning work before cool down.  It's pretty consistent at all of the gyms I've been to.

Here at Kiatphontip there's variety.  They mix in the bag work with the pad work on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  On Tuesday's and Thursday's there's technique work and I've learned a ton.  On Tuesday I trained with Josh and on Thursday I trained with Sam from the UK.

About Wednesday, when I went to bed I felt the soreness all over my body.  I've been sleeping really early and the problem is my body is waking up very early as well.  I mustered the strength to get up and train on Thursday morning.

Training Thursday morning sucked really bad.  I could feel my body just ready to go.  I did my rounds without incident since I love it, did sparring drills with Sam, and then I had to do conditioning to finish.  To finish we had to do 10 squats with a barbell resting on our shoulders, 10 reps of shoulder shrugs with a 35 lb. kettle bell, and 10 bicep curls.  We had to do 7 sets of those exercises.  At about set 5 both Oliver and I were about to puke.  I just called it a day and the trainers gave me their blessings.  Oliver actually puked.

I went to sleep again and my body woke up to start the afternoon training.  However, something did not feel right.  I probably could've gone if Manny Pacquiao was present and asked me to give it a go.  But my body was begging me to rest.  I decided to call it a day and then watch the training and train both sessions on Friday.

Watching Thursday's afternoon training session was actually a blessing.  Normally when you're training you're just so into what you're doing.  You really do not get to see what other's do or who else is training with you.  Over here in Thailand everybody trains together.

With everybody training together I was able to watch to pros from Thailand train.  I was able to watch not from a entertaining aspect but from a educational one.  I picked up on a few things and decided that I was going to use it for the rest of my stay.

After watching the afternoon training I went to dinner.  I ate what I could but with 7 - 8 people at the dinner table there's only so much that can go around.  And with nothing to do for a few hours I decided to take up Rob's recommendation and go to Central Plaza Salaya.

I ate at Pizza Factory and just browsed the shops.  I actually couldn't finish my pizza and had to box it.  When I got back to the gym I gave it to Mikey, Rob's nephew, and he just about killed the pizza.  After getting back to my room I hung out for a bit, watched some training videos, and then I went to sleep and called it a night.
